Walmart Asks U.S. Supreme Court To Hear Appeal Of Gender Discrimination Class |

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The nation's largest retailer on Aug. 25 filed a petition for writ of certiorari asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a California federal judge's decision to certify a class of more than 1 million current and former female Walmart employees who claim that the company discriminated against them based on their gender (Wal-Mart Stores Inc. v. Betty Dukes, et al., No. 10A19, U.S. Sup.; See 5/6/10, Page 4).

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - A New Jersey Superior Court judge on Aug. 17 certified a class of current and former Century 21 Real Estate franchisees as part of a lawsuit alleging breach of contract and other claims against the real estate agents' franchisor (Frank K. Cooper Real Estate #1 Inc., et al. v. Cendant Corp., et al., No. MRS-L-377-02, N.J. Super., Morris Co., Law Div.).

SAN FRANCISCO - A California federal judge erred in denying certification of a class action lawsuit that accused automaker Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC of producing vehicles with a defect that causes tires to wear prematurely, a federal appellate court ruled Aug. 17 (Brian J. Wolin v. Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC; Kenneth Gable v. Jaguar Land Rover North America LLC, Nos. 09-55104, 09-55105, 9th Cir.; 2010 U.S. App. LEXIS 17132).
